Abstract
Purpose. Determination of physical and mechanical properties of sand and crushed stone from tails. The point samples of tails were taken from the terminal of a separate technological screening line. Laboratory tests of the tails were carried out according to the grain composition, the content of grains of a flake and needle shape, bulk density and porosity, grinding (grades according to strength). Research methods. In the tests, a laboratory sample was used that was dried to a constant mass, from which analytical samples were taken. It was screened manually through screens with holes of standard sizes. The results of the test lied in determination of the residue on each screen. Scientific novelty. The physical and mechanical parameters, data on the chemical and granulometric composition of crushed stone and sand from iron ore beneficiation waste were obtained experimentally. Practical significance. The general stability of the upper structure of the railway track, the stability and strength of the main area of track bed (compactions, slopes, berms, laying of geotextile materials, reserve for subsidence) are ensured to avoid deformations under the railway load. These planned measures are not always economically feasible. On the other hand, the reserves of non-metallic building materials (granite) in the iron ore quarry are limited, and their mining is episodic. In this regard, the use of tails is relevant for the construction and restoration of the track bed on weak foundations and for the upper structure of railway tracks. Results. Crushed stone from the tails is recommended to be used to strengthen weak foundations at the construction of the track beds of railway tracks. It is recommended to use crushed stone from tails for the upper structure of railway tracks. Due to the use of waste during the construction of railways in reinforced concrete blocks, it is possible to significantly improve the environmental condition of the enterprise at the dumps and in the quarry. The newly developed construction of the upper structure of the railway track is environmentally protected from dust formation, allows work on track correction, replacement of sleepers and rails
