Ethics & Policies

Generative AI Policy

This policy sets out the rules governing the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in the creation, submission and processing of scholarly materials for the journal. Its purpose is to uphold academic integrity and prevent the distortion of research content.

Generative AI may be used only as a tool that assists the author in working with the text and must not replace their intellectual contribution. Any use of AI must not affect the scientific validity or reliability of the research.

Restrictions on AI use

The use of generative AI is prohibited for:

  • producing parts of the manuscript that contain analytical conclusions, interpretation of results or scientific claims;
  • modelling or “inventing” data, statistical values or experimental outcomes;
  • generating automated descriptions of methods or theoretical concepts without the author’s involvement.

Permitted uses

An author may use AI for:

  • improving text readability (editing, simplifying wording, proofreading);
  • preparing supplementary materials – checking reference formatting, organising the bibliography, creating tables based on data supplied by the author;
  • employing algorithmic tools to identify technical errors.

Disclosure requirement

Each author must clearly indicate which parts of the work involved the use of AI and for what purpose. Failure to declare AI use when it has in fact been applied is considered a violation of the journal’s ethical standards.

Author responsibility

Authors bear full responsibility for the content of the text, the accuracy of the material, the absence of distortions, and the correctness of citations. Even when AI is used, authors must independently verify:

  • the accuracy of facts and data;
  • the correctness of references;
  • the precision of formulations that have scientific significance.

Editorial practices

The editorial office may use AI technologies for:

  • preliminary screening of manuscripts for signs of machine-generated content;
  • detecting potential plagiarism matches;
  • technical preparation of the text prior to peer review.

The editorial office does not use AI to produce reviews or to make editorial decisions.

Breaches of the policy

Materials found to contain concealed or unacceptable use of generative AI may be:

  • returned to the authors for revision;
  • rejected without further consideration;
  • retracted after publication in cases of serious breaches of research integrity.
